Emergency or low-barrier shelters are designed to keep people safe from extreme weather conditions. The Emergency Shelter program provides beds on a first come, first served basis, to any homeless person. It is sometimes also referred to as emergency shelter.

DC Lifts Snow Emergency as of 9:30 am Tuesday, March 4, 2014

(Washington, DC) The District announced today that the snow emergency will be lifted as of 9:30 am, Tuesday, March 4. By declaring a snow emergency, the District Snow Team (Department of Public Works and Department of Transportation) was able to clear snow emergency routes curb to curb.
