DC Snow Team to Deploy Ahead of Potential Sunday Afternoon Snow

Sunday, December 9, 2018

Washington, DC – The National Weather Service is forecasting a heightened chance of snow in the District Sunday afternoon, followed by freezing temperatures overnight. To prepare, the DC Snow Team will deploy more than 200 trucks to pretreat all District roads on Sunday, December 9. Residents and motorists can register to receive important weather alerts from the District on their devices by signing up for AlertDC at alertdc.dc.gov.

“While our hope is that the storm stays south of the District, there is a chance of up to four inches of snow in some parts of DC,” said Department of Public Works (DPW) Director Chris Shorter. “To ensure a safe commute on Monday morning, our crews will be pretreating roads with a combination of liquid brine and rock salt.”

The DC Snow Team encourages residents and commercial property owners to apply abrasives such as rock salt, de-icer, or non-clumping kitty litter to the sidewalks around their properties to reduce the possibility of icing and to prevent slips and falls.

Residents concerned about the treatment or plowing of specific roads should call the Citywide Call Center by dialing 311.
