The DC Snow Team is encouraging District residents and businesses to begin preparing for snow season. While the long-range forecast does not include a major storm, the District averages about 15 inches of snow a year.
On Friday, City Administrator Rashad Young and leaders of the DC Snow Team will kick off the 2017-2018 snow season with a dry run exercise and press conference at the Farragut Salt Dome. The Snow Dry Run is a training exercise for the 800+ members of the DC Snow Team (DPW, DDOT, DGS, DHS, Serve DC, and other agencies) to prepare for every aspect of the city’s snow and ice operations. About 500 plow drivers will drive their routes, while administrative, supervisory, logistics and IT employees will practice their functions at their respective sites.
(WASHINGTON, DC) The District Snow Team will deploy 50 plows, starting at 9 pm, Wednesday, December 14, to be ready for the possibility of light snow to fall overnight. There is a 30% probability of snow, so the crews will focus attention on bridges, elevated structures, overpasses, and ramps. While little accumulation is expected, temperatures will be below freezing and possible single-digit wind chill temperatures may occur on Thursday. Motorists are asked to drive carefully and remove any snow from their vehicles before travelling.
